  • The president has general supervisory powers over the affairs of the chapter, its committees, membership, officers, presides over all meetings of the local board/membership and conducts the agenda. Other duties include establishing committees and appointments, etc.

  • The vice president works closely with the president to ensure that all affairs of the chapter are functioning and operating in accordance with the guidelines of the NLA by-laws. He/She also performs responsibilities determined by the president and national board of directors. Likewise, in the absence of the president, he/she performs the duties of that office, not limited to establishing chapter committees and appointments, etc.

  • The second vice president is an appointed office to be implemented and functioned at the direction of the president and local board. He/she works in conjunction with the VP in areas such as (a) Internal State Administration; (b) Classes; (c) Community Activities; (d) Public Relations; (e) Committees and other programs as instructed by the president.

  • The secretary is responsible for (a) keeping an up-to-date record of all business of the chapter, (b) have all minutes read, approved and placed on file by the president. In the absence of the president and vice president, the secretary shall (a) enter into the minutes every principal motion that comes before the assembly, and where a vote is necessary, votes for each side whether the motion carried or was lost; (b) prepare and co-sign, where applicable, all certificates of recognition for the chapter; (c) be responsible for maintaining an attendance/sign in sheet prior to all meetings so that a record of active members in attendance can be maintained.

  • The assistant secretary is to assist the secretary and to act in his/her absence.

  • The internal administrator must (a) oversee and monitor committees; (b) conduct committee meetings; (c) ensure that all committees follow the recognized chain of protocol; (d) exercise further duties as may be assigned by the president; (e) collect reports from all committees, summarize them and turn in a copy to both the president and secretary monthly. He/she essentially makes certain the committees are operating properly in the best interest of the organizations objective.

  • The membership officer is responsible for maintaining an up-to-date roster of the membership and create ways to increase the membership through membership drives, announcements, activities, projects, etc. The duties of this office include but not is limited to, (a) setting up a membership drive table at each formal event; (b) meet on a monthly basis with the Internal Administrator and vice president prior to the board and membership meetings to resolve any problems and discuss the progress of related chapter business.

  • The membership officer assistant is to assist the membership officer and act in his/her absence.

Brainstorming and Steering Committee: Chad Bock

  • The duties of the external administrator are (a) compile a list of state legislators and establish contact them (b) maintain contact with other NLA chapters; (c) network with state prison NLA and lifer group chapters; (d) network with outside prison groups, churches, etc., (e) promote the programs, activities and all positive aspects of the chapter to other organizations with the approval of the president's office.

  • It is the duty of this office to visualize ideas that are beneficial to the goals and purpose of the NLA chapter. This is a committee reserved for innovative visionaries who draft, examine and perfect proposals, suggesting the necessary changes that will make the ideas successful.

  • The special project chairperson is responsible for but not limited to, (a) having the mind to establish new and innovative ideas to assist in promoting positive programming; (b) create fundraising activities; (c) promote charity activities; (d) prepare a monthly report on the progress of its committees and projects submitting a copy to the Internal Administrator..

  • This office is responsible for developing, implementing and supervising charitable projects for the chapter. This committee may consist of three or more active members whose duties include, but are not limited to, (a) writing and submitting proposals for community related projects; (b) maintain a community calendar of events; (c) establish means to promote the chapter in a positive image; (d) seek worthwhile endeavors that properly serve the community, its youth and surrounding areas; (e) prepare a monthly report on the committee's progress and submit it to the internal administrator.

  • The administrator officer is responsible for maintaining the orderly conduct of members during All NLA meetings. He/she calls meetings to order, maintains all material, banners, supplies, furniture, etc., and is to posses a thorough knowledge of Roberts Rules of Order employing his/her experience to bring about harmonious conditions, order and peace.

  • The Orientation Officer, " OAR ", duties include, but are not limited to; (a) searching for the skills and special talents within the membership that will assist the Chapter in its progress, (b) recommend members to work on various committees.
    This office must also prepare and have available at all meetings an up-to-date membership roster made in conjunction with the Chapter Secretary and Membership Officer.

  • It is the purpose of this Office to gain maintain a steady flow of supplies and necessary items for the continued success of the chapter., To ensure that set supplies are readily available and to maintain concise records of inventory. the duties of this office shall include, but are not limited to a) have the responsibility to conduct committee meetings and an agenda with the knowledge and approval of the president; b) prepare a written monthly report on the Ways and Means committees progress and submit a copy to the internal administrator.
